In the end, I want my yoga to help me grow. So, I continue to reflect on my intentions every time I step onto my mat. To love, accept, and celebrate the best of who I am so that I may become a catalyst for change.

Conscious activism has an informed focus with integrity that acts from the heart. Through it we are creating focused intention to bring about conscious and responsible global change through community-driven action. It empowers and engages people to collaborate in creating sustainable “win-win” situations. I am delighted to bring the OTM experience to my community through the Yoga In Action workshop and to continue collaborating with others who feel passionately about bringing balance to our world.

So, in this culture of competition, fitness, and push it to the limit exercise, I am learning to find the courage to be humble and be gentle. I am still on a journey, but I now am much more aware and looking to find balance in my yoga practice. Each day I remind myself to be gentle, to nurture my body, and give it the chance to become alive for wellness and health. This way I can continue to do what I love for years to come–run.

So, I will sign out with the words of Winston Churchill. I am learning to speak from my heart with love, empathy and compassion for all who cross my path, whether in person or in this new virtual world. The kids became silent and the trainers walked around and touched each of their heads. It was similar to what we had done at Made By Survivors while the kids were in savasana. I couldn’t hold back my emotion at this point and I just allowed the tears to fall. What a sweet and powerful moment.

Today was magical in so many ways. Made By Survivors was founded by two U.S. Americans and they have many different locations worldwide. In Kolkata they have partnered with Women’s Interlink Foundation which is a shelter for girls, many are survivors of sex trafficking while others have been victims of domestic violence or abandoned by their parents.

Today was filled with emotions across the spectrum. The fun of play with the girls while at the same time knowing that they each had a story filled with horror, experiencing rape and torture like I have only read about. And here I was in the presence of these girls. It was a strange reality.

I am looking forward to learning from the other organizations we have partnered with over the next 10 days. So far I feel confident that the money raised is going to well deserved women who are fighting a very difficult battle in a culture deeply entrenched in oppression (both gender and caste). I appreciate those who have been a part of this very long journey to get me here. What an amazing experience to meet the change makers. This country is full of beauty and heartbreak. I am here to take it all in.
